Fernand Roux established this estate in 1885 with a four hectare plot in the village of Saint Aubin. The domaine has remained under family control for five generations and currently ranks among the ten largest landholders in Burgundy. Brothers Mathieu and Sébastien Roux took over management in 2003, with Mathieu serving as the head winemaker and Sébastien managing the business operations. While the family previously balanced roles as both growers and négociants, the current leaders have transitioned the focus toward estate wines produced from their own proprietary parcels across the region. This shift has included an investment in modernizing the winery facilities while maintaining the heritage of the family historical cellars in Saint Aubin.
The vineyard holdings consist of over 70 hectares spread across 13 villages in the Côte d'Or and Côte Chalonnaise. In the Rully appellation, the family manages notable sites such as the Clos des Mollepierres and Les Agnières, where vines grow in clay and limestone soils at elevations reaching 300 meters. Viticulture follows sustainable practices, and the estate has gradually introduced organic methods to many of its parcels to improve soil health. Winemaking involves plot by plot vinification to maintain the specific character of each site. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The brothers also utilize terracotta amphora for certain cuvées to emphasize fruit purity without wood influence.
The estate is recognized for its white wines, which comprise approximately sixty percent of its total output. Its Rully Chardonnay is noted for a style that highlights fresh fruit and mineral clarity. Clos des Mollepierres is a significant single vineyard wine known for its floral aromatics and rounded texture on the palate. Beyond its work in the Côte Chalonnaise, the domaine maintains a high reputation for its extensive range of Saint Aubin 1er Cru and Chassagne Montrachet labels. The family also produces red wines from Pinot Noir across various appellations including Mercurey and Gevrey Chambertin. As a member of the Vignobles et Signatures association, the producer distributes its diverse portfolio to more than 50 countries.
