Poderi e Cantine Oddero

The Oddero family has a presence in the La Morra area of Piedmont dating back to at least the 18th century. While the ancestors originally sold wine in bulk, Giovanni Battista Oddero and his sons began transitioning the business toward estate production in the mid-1800s. Giacomo Oddero, the first of his name, is credited with bottling the winery's first Barolo in 1878. The modern configuration of the estate is attributed to the second Giacomo Oddero, born in 1926, who served as a significant administrative figure in the development of the Piedmontese DOC and DOCG regulations. Following a family split in 2006, the historical cellars in La Morra remained with Giacomo and are now directed by his daughter, Mariacristina Oddero, along with her children Pietro and Isabella.

The estate encompasses 35 hectares of vineyards across several primary sites in the Langhe and Asti territories. This includes parcels in Barolo crus such as Brunate, Bussia, Villero, and Vignarionda in Serralunga d'Alba. In 2017, the family launched the Monlià project in the Colli Tortonesi sub-region, where they cultivate Timorasso grapes on the marl soils of Monleale. All vineyards have been farmed under certified organic practices since 2017. Winemaking for the red wines follows a traditional path with fermentation in stainless steel followed by long aging in large Slavonian and Austrian oak barrels, ranging from 40 to 75 hectoliters, to highlight the character of the specific site over cellar technique.

Poderi e Cantine Oddero is a traditionalist producer in Barolo, known for wines with long aging potential and site transparency. Their portfolio is anchored by a range of single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco labels that showcase the distinct soil compositions of different communes. The recent addition of the Monlià Derthona Timorasso marks an expansion into white wine production, connecting their historical expertise with the specific conditions of the Colli Tortonesi appellation. The winery maintains a reputation for consistency and technical precision among the historic houses of the Piedmont region.
