Maison Boursot Père et Fils

Maison Boursot, also known as Domaine Boursot Pere et Fils, represents one of the longest continuous winemaking lineages in Burgundy, with family roots in Chambolle Musigny dating back to 1550. For several centuries, the family primarily farmed grapes to sell to regional merchants. The transition to estate bottling began in 1974 under Jean Francois Boursot and his wife Charlotte, who opened the first tasting cellar in the village. Management later passed to Remy Boursot in 1984, followed by his sons Romaric and Romuald Boursot. The brothers represent the fifteenth generation of the family and have expanded the business by establishing a merchant label to supplement their estate grown fruit.

The estate controls approximately four hectares of vineyards, with a significant presence in Chambolle Musigny alongside parcels in Gevrey Chambertin and Vosne Romanee. In Gevrey Chambertin, they farm sites such as En Champs, which is known for its deep soils and proximity to Premier Cru plots. The brothers utilize sustainable farming techniques, emphasizing mechanical soil work and avoiding chemical herbicides to promote biodiversity. In the cellar, Romuald Boursot favors a traditional approach with minimal intervention. Red wines are typically produced from 100 percent de-stemmed fruit and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged for up to 18 months in French oak barrels, and the brothers have also introduced the use of clay amphorae for specific small batch fermentations.

Maison Boursot is recognized for its village and Premier Cru wines from Chambolle Musigny, particularly the expressions from Les Fuees and Les Chatelots. Their Gevrey Chambertin wines are also a core part of the portfolio, often offering a more robust and structured profile compared to the delicacy of their Chambolle bottlings. The wines are frequently cited by critics for their purity of fruit and silkiness, reflecting the limestone heavy soils of the Cote de Nuits. Although it remains a small family operation, the producer has increased its international presence under the current generation. Their commitment to transparency and traditional Burgundian style has established a reputation for producing consistent, terroir driven wines that represent the classic character of their respective appellations.
