La Prevostura

Marco and Davide Bellini established the modern La Prevostura estate in 2001, purchasing land that had been historically significant for viticulture in the early 20th century. The property is situated on a hill in Lessona that was once part of the holdings of the Marquis La Marmora and later achieved recognition under the Quario family before falling into neglect. The Bellini brothers sought to restore the abandoned vineyards as part of a broader movement to revive the winemaking traditions of Alto Piemonte. In recent years, the estate was acquired by Luca de Marchi, who also manages the neighboring Proprietà Sperino estate. This transition has integrated La Prevostura into one of the most active winemaking operations in the region.

The estate encompasses five hectares of vineyards at an elevation of 390 meters, predominantly on the south facing slopes of the Lessona hills. The terroir is defined by its soil composition, featuring acidic yellow marine sands and volcanic porphyry. These conditions are conducive to producing Nebbiolo grapes with high acidity and delicate tannins. The vineyards are planted at a density of 4,500 vines per hectare and are farmed using traditional practices that avoid chemical fertilizers. Winemaking is currently overseen by Luca de Marchi, following the initial work of consultant Cristiano Garella. The process involves extended maceration periods of up to 30 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by approximately 22 months of aging in a combination of barriques and larger tonneaux.

La Prevostura is best known for its flagship Lessona DOC, a wine produced primarily from Nebbiolo with small additions of Vespolina and Croatina. The winery also produces a Bramaterra DOC from vineyards located in Villa del Bosco, which contains a higher percentage of blending grapes. Other notable labels include the Muntacc and Garsun bottlings under the Coste della Sesia DOC, as well as a rosato named Corinna. The estate wines are noted for their precision and aromatic complexity, drawing comparisons to the structured profile of red Burgundy. Recent ratings from Gambero Rosso and Wine Enthusiast have placed the estate among the recognized producers of the northern Piedmont wine scene.
