Étienne de Loury is a winery brand based in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation of the Loire Valley, currently managed as part of the Famille Bourgeois holdings. The Bourgeois family has been involved in viticulture in the village of Chavignol for ten generations, though the modern incarnation of their wine estate was formally established in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois. Initially working with just two hectares of vines, the family expanded the estate into one of the most prominent names in the Central Loire. Today, the business is directed by Jean-Marie and Remi Bourgeois, who maintain several distinct labels to showcase the diverse range of vineyard sites they control across the region.

The vineyards used for Étienne de Loury production are situated on the eastern and western banks of the Loire, covering both the Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre appellations. These holdings are characterized by a mosaic of geological profiles, including Kimmeridgian marls rich in fossilized shells, flinty silex, and limestone-clay soils. The winemaking philosophy is centered on expressing the nuances of these specific sites through separate vinification of individual plots. Sauvignon Blanc grapes, the primary variety for the estate, are typically fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats to preserve their vibrant fruit aromatics and the hallmark flinty character of the region.

The most notable wine in the range is the Pouilly-Fumé La Porte de l’Abbaye, which is frequently recognized for its citrus notes and precise mineral finish. The label also extends to Sancerre with the La Porte du Caillou series, offering white, red, and rosé wines that reflect the specific limestone and clay terroirs of that bank of the river. As part of the larger Famille Bourgeois group, which also includes the Domaine Henri Bourgeois and the Clos Henri estate in Marlborough, New Zealand, the Étienne de Loury brand is regarded for its consistency and its ability to provide a clear, terroir-driven window into the wines of the upper Loire.
