Producer
Peter and Kajsa Henricsson established the winery after moving to the Naramata Bench from Sweden. Peter, a former decathlete and technology entrepreneur, was encouraged to buy the property by Torsten Allander, the founder of Foxtrot Vineyards. They acquired the four acre site, then known as Erickson Vineyard, in 2013 after the previous owner, Arnie Erickson, put the land up for sale. The property had historically served as the primary fruit source for some of the region's most recognized single vineyard Pinot Noir bottlings. The Henricssons chose to transition from being growers to independent producers to ensure the vineyard's old vines continued to be vinified with a specific focus on quality.
The estate is situated on a bench overlooking Okanagan Lake, where the soil profile is characterized by silty clay and glacial till. It features some of the oldest vines in the valley, with a primary Pinot Noir block, referred to as the O Block, dating back to 1990. The Henricssons practice organic farming and intensive manual vineyard management, including hand-sorting each bin of fruit during harvest. Their winemaking philosophy centers on low intervention, utilizing wild yeast for all fermentations and avoiding fining or filtration. For Chardonnay, they employ a juice oxidation technique called browning, while their Pinot Noir often incorporates a high percentage of whole cluster fermentation and aging in French oak barrels.
The winery maintains a very small production scale, typically releasing around 500 cases annually. Their portfolio is focused exclusively on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with notable labels such as the Deux Hivers and Kajsa Chardonnay. These wines are recognized for their structural integrity and their ability to reflect the nuanced microclimate of the Naramata Bench. Because the winery does not operate a formal tasting room or follow standard commercial hours, their releases are primarily distributed through a private mailing list and a small number of specialty wine shops. They are regarded as boutique specialists who prioritize precision and longevity in their wines.
