Godmé Père et Fils

The Godmé family has been involved in viticulture in the Montagne de Reims since the late 19th century. Joseph and Antoinette Godmé began commercializing their own Champagne in 1930, establishing the foundation for the family business in Verzenay. The estate passed through successive generations, including Bertrand Godmé, before a significant reorganization occurred in 2006. At this time, the family domain was divided between siblings Hugues and Sabine. Sabine Godmé and her husband, Jean-Marie Guillaume, assumed control of the Godmé Père et Fils brand and the primary production facilities, which they now operate with their children, Marie and Matthieu.

The estate manages 5.5 hectares of vineyards across several villages in the northern Montagne de Reims. Their holdings are concentrated in the Grand Cru sites of Verzenay, Verzy, and Beaumont-sur-Vesle, along with Premier Cru plots in Villers-Marmery and Montbré. The terroir is defined by the region's chalk subsoils and north-facing exposures, which favor the development of Pinot Noir with high acidity and mineral depth. Viticulture is conducted with a focus on environmental sustainability, including the elimination of insecticides and a transition toward organic practices. Winemaking involves a combination of temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and small oak barrels, with reserve wines often accounting for up to half of the final blends to ensure consistency.

The producer is widely recognized for its Pinot Noir dominant Champagnes that emphasize the power and saline character of the Verzenay terroir. The Brut Réserve serves as the flagship wine, reflecting a multi-vintage blend of the three main Champagne varieties. Other key offerings include the Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, sourced from old vines in Verzenay and Verzy, and the Blanc de Blancs from Villers-Marmery. As a Récoltant-Manipulant, the house retains full control over every stage of production from the vineyard to the cellar. The estate is noted for producing wines with structural tension and a distinct mineral profile typical of the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims.
