Giuseppe Quintarelli

Silvio Quintarelli established the family estate in the Cerè area of Negrar in 1924, having previously worked as a sharecropper in the same valley. His son Giuseppe, who became widely known as Bepi, assumed control of the winery in the early 1950s and guided operations for over sixty years until his death in 2012. During his tenure, Giuseppe transformed the property from a small local farm into one of the most respected names in Italian viticulture. Today, the property remains strictly family owned and managed by Giuseppe's daughter Fiorenza, her husband Giampaolo Grigoli, and their sons Francesco and Lorenzo. This lineage maintains a focus on slow, patient production and minimal modern intervention, ensuring that the legacy of the founder remains intact.

The estate encompasses 12 hectares of vineyards situated at approximately 500 meters of elevation on the eastern slopes of the Negrar valley. These hillside sites feature soils composed of limestone and basalt, which provide a distinct foundation for the traditional local varieties of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. Giuseppe also introduced international varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, which he integrated into the vineyard landscape. Winemaking centers on the rigorous use of the appassimento technique, where high quality grape bunches are selected and dried on wooden racks for several months to concentrate sugars. Following a slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wines undergo exceptionally long maturation periods, typically spending seven to ten years in large Slavonian oak casks called botti.

The producer is most recognized for its Amarone della Valpolicella Classico and the sweet Recioto della Valpolicella, both considered benchmark examples of these styles. The estate also produces Alzero, a concentrated wine made from dried Cabernet grapes, and Primofiore, which is often the first red wine released from a vintage. In years when the quality of the fruit does not meet the family's highest standards for Amarone, the wine is declassified and released under the Rosso del Bepi label. Every bottle is finished with a distinctive, hand-written style label that has become a hallmark of the brand. The winery maintains an intentionally low profile, operating without an official website or formal marketing department, while its limited production remains highly sought after by collectors.
