Fisher Vineyards

Fred and Juelle Fisher founded the winery in 1973 after moving from Detroit to Northern California to pursue viticulture. Fred was a descendant of the family behind Fisher Body Company, a major contributor to the American automotive industry. The couple initially purchased 100 acres of rugged, forested land on the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, later expanding their holdings in 1975 with the acquisition of a 57 acre property south of Calistoga. The winery remains a family enterprise, now managed by the founders children, Robert, Whitney, and Cameron Fisher, who took over primary operations before the death of Fred Fisher in 2025.

The estate encompasses two distinct properties with contrasting geological profiles. The original Mountain Estate in Sonoma County features elevations between 1,200 and 1,400 feet, where vineyards are planted in volcanic soils and heavy clay. In contrast, the Calistoga Estate in Napa Valley sits on an alluvial fan along Simmons Creek, characterized by rocky loam and cobblestones. Whitney Fisher serves as the winegrower and winemaker, working alongside head winemaker Adam Goodrich. Their production facilities include a landmark structure designed by architect William Turnbull, which was constructed using timber milled directly from the property, as well as a modern winery in Calistoga that opened in 2019.

Fisher Vineyards is recognized for its site specific Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The flagship Coach Insignia Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Bordeaux varietals from the Calistoga property, named in honor of the family automotive heritage. Vineyard designated wines like the Wedding Vineyard Cabernet and the Whitney's Vineyard Chardonnay are known for their power and ability to age. Over its history, the estate has collaborated with influential viticulturists and winemakers, including David Abreu, Paul Hobbs, and Mia Klein. The producer maintains a reputation for a classically balanced style that prioritizes the unique characteristics of its mountain and valley floor locations.
