Emendis

The Emendis winery is situated on the historic Masia Puigmoltó estate in the village of Castellet i la Gornal, within the Alt Penedès region of Catalonia. While agricultural documentation for the property dates back to 1186, the modern winemaking project was launched by the Vallès family in 2006. The name Emendis is taken from the first woman recorded as a resident of the farmhouse over eight centuries ago. Salvador Vallès and his wife Cecilia, together with the second generation represented by their daughter Marta and her husband Rafa, converted the ancient masía into a production facility. This transition allowed the family to move from selling their harvest to other producers to managing the entire winemaking process on the estate.

The estate encompasses 48 hectares of vineyards that directly surround the winery building. These plots are characterized by clay and limestone soils with high magnesium content, which provides the necessary acidity to maintain freshness in the wines. The family implements integrated agriculture practices, promoting a sustainable environment that respects the local flora and fauna. Cultivated varieties include indigenous grapes such as Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada, alongside international varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. During harvest, the grapes are collected by hand in small 20-kilogram crates and chilled to 5ºC upon arrival at the winery to preserve their aromatic integrity. The production process utilizes gravity to move the juice, and the wines are aged in a specialized underground cellar built from recycled concrete.

Emendis focuses on estate-bottled production, labeled as Vins i Caves de Finca, and holds certifications for both DO Cava and DO Penedès. Their Cava portfolio includes the Nu series and the 1186 range, which emphasize long aging and traditional methods to develop complexity. These sparkling wines are frequently produced in Brut and Brut Nature styles to showcase the specific profile of the estate's terroir. In addition to sparkling options, the winery produces a variety of still wines, including the Lilith line and specialized blends that feature local grapes like Ull de Llebre. The family maintains control over the entire supply chain, from the soil to the final bottling in their own cellars, positioning their products in the premium segment of the Catalan wine market.
