Domaine Roux Père & Fils

Domaine Roux Père & Fils was established in 1885 by Fernand Roux, who began with four hectares of vines in the village of Saint-Aubin. The estate has remained under family control for five generations, expanding significantly through the leadership of Marcel Roux and his son Christian. Marcel Roux was particularly influential, increasing the family holdings to 25 hectares across Meursault and Santenay while advocating for the development of the Saint-Aubin appellation. Today, the operation is led by brothers Mathieu and Sébastien Roux, who took over management in 2003. They represent the fifth generation of the family and are supported by several other family members in a business that remains entirely family-owned.

The family manages over 70 hectares of vineyards distributed across 13 villages in the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, and Côte Chalonnaise. These holdings are divided into 180 individual parcels, including sites in Rully, Mercurey, and Chambolle-Musigny. The vines are primarily situated on eastern and southern facing slopes featuring diverse soil profiles such as light grey marl and limestone. Farming follows a sustainable approach with manual harvesting at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, Mathieu Roux oversees a winemaking process that balances traditional aging with modern experimentation. This includes the use of small stainless steel tanks and amphora alongside traditional oak barrels to emphasize the specific character of each plot.

The domaine produces over 100 different cuvées, with white wines accounting for about 60 percent of the total production. Their portfolio spans the hierarchy of Burgundy, from regional Bourgogne labels to Grand Cru wines like Corton-Charlemagne. Notable Premier Cru holdings include Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne and Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumes. The estate is also recognized for maintaining an extensive library of older vertical vintages, which is uncommon for the region. As one of the largest independent landowners in the Côte d’Or, the producer is known for providing a broad and consistent perspective on the diverse terroirs of Burgundy.
