Domaine Jérôme Chezeaux was established as a commercial estate in 1971, though the family vineyard lineage dates back to 1930 with the work of Julien Missery. Bernard Chezeaux, who was Missery's son in law, founded the modern domaine and expanded the family holdings before his death in 1993. His son Jérôme assumed management that same year and has since overseen the transition from selling fruit to negociants to bottling the majority of production at the estate. The winery is based in Premeaux-Prissey, a village located at the southern edge of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. The operation remains family owned, with Jérôme working alongside his wife, Pierrette, and their daughter, Lyse, who joined the team full time in 2019.
The domaine manages approximately 12 hectares of vineyards located exclusively in the Côte de Nuits. These holdings are spread across the communes of Premeaux-Prissey, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, and Vougeot. Viticulture follows the principles of lutte raisonnée, focusing on environmental respect and soil health. In the cellar, the winemaking process is traditional and remains consistent across all appellations. Grapes are harvested by hand and entirely de-stemmed before undergoing a three to four day cold maceration. Fermentation occurs in open top vats using indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels. Jérôme limits the use of new oak to approximately 30 percent for the Premier Cru and Grand Cru bottlings to preserve the specific fruit character of each vineyard site.
The reputation of the estate is built on a collection of Premier Cru wines from Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée. Notable parcels include Les Vaucrains and Aux Boudots in Nuits-Saint-Georges, along with Les Suchots and Les Chaumes in Vosne-Romanée. The domaine also produces a Grand Cru from the Clos de Vougeot, where the family owns a parcel situated near the chateau. While red wines from Pinot Noir are the primary focus, the estate also produces small quantities of white wine from Aligoté and a blend of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. These wines are valued for their structural integrity and their focus on the clarity of the fruit. The domaine has maintained a steady presence in international markets while retaining an artisanal approach that avoids modern extraction trends.
