Domaine Arlaud

Domaine Arlaud was established in 1942 following the marriage of Joseph Arlaud, originally from the Ardèche, and Renée Amiot, whose family held roots in Burgundy. Their wedding gift consisted of several vineyard parcels, which Joseph expanded starting in 1949. In 1966, the family acquired a historic 14th century cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges, which has been featured on the estate labels ever since. Hervé Arlaud succeeded his father in 1983 and continued to grow the vineyard holdings. His children, Cyprien, Bertille, and Romain, began working at the estate in the late 1990s. Cyprien Arlaud took sole responsibility for the domaine in 2013.

The estate is based in Morey-Saint-Denis and manages 17 hectares across 19 different appellations. Under Cyprien Arlaud, the domaine transitioned to organic farming in 2004 and received certification in 2010. In 2014, it became the first producer in Morey-Saint-Denis to achieve biodynamic certification through Biodyvin. A defining feature of their viticulture is the use of horses for plowing to prevent soil compaction, a practice led by Bertille Arlaud. Winemaking takes place in a gravity-flow facility built in 2003. The process involves manual sorting, fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, and aging in French oak with a low proportion of new barrels. Most wines are bottled without fining or filtration.

The producer is recognized for its four Grand Cru holdings: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, and Bonnes Mares. They also produce several Premier Crus, including Morey-Saint-Denis Aux Chezeaux and Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes. One of their most recognized village level wines is the Bourgogne Roncevie, sourced from a plot in Gevrey-Chambertin that was reclassified from village status to regional status in 1964. The estate has a reputation for producing wines with textural silkiness and transparency. They are often cited as a reference for modern, low-intervention winemaking in the Côte de Nuits.
