Established in 1783, Weingut Seebrich is a family-owned estate located in the town of Nierstein. The property has been managed by the Seebrich family for eight generations, with current operations led by Heinrich Seebrich and his son, Jochen Seebrich. A significant change in the estate's history occurred in the 1950s when Heinrich Seebrich Senior transitioned the property entirely to viticulture. Today, Jochen serves as the head winemaker, managing the vineyards and cellar alongside his wife, Nicole, and his parents, maintaining a lineage that spans over two centuries in the Rheinhessen region.
The estate manages 13 hectares of vineyards, mostly situated on the Niersteiner Roter Hang, a seven-kilometer stretch of riverfront cliffs. This terroir consists of iron-rich red clay and sandstone soils that date back to the Permian Period. The slope's proximity to the Rhine river provides reflected sunlight and heat, which aids in grape ripening on steep gradients that can reach 50 percent. Key vineyard holdings include parcels in Niersteiner Pettenthal, Hipping, and Oelberg. In the cellar, the family maintains traditional practices such as aging their Schloss Schwabsburg Riesling in a wooden barrel built in 1929, when the Rhine last froze over completely.
Riesling is the primary grape at the estate, accounting for approximately 40 percent of total plantings. The winery produces a variety of styles, from dry mineral-driven Rieslings like the Niersteiner Roter Schiefer to sweet dessert wines such as Beerenauslese and Eiswein. In addition to Riesling, the family grows Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir, alongside specialty varieties like Scheurebe and Viognier. As a member of the Roter Hang e.V. association, the winery focuses on the mineral character derived from the local red slate. The estate is recognized in regional guides for providing a clear representation of Nierstein's geographic origin and vineyard sites such as the Mathildengarten.
