Azienda Agricola La Torre

Azienda Agricola La Torre was established in 1976 when Giuseppe Ananìa purchased the property in the southern sector of Montalcino. The Ananìa family moved to the region from Calabria and began the process of planting vineyards, leading to the release of their first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 1982. Current operations are directed by Luigi Ananìa, who took over the management of the estate after completing his agricultural studies at the University of Florence. The family lineage continues with his daughter, Benedetta Ananìa, who entered the business in 2024 to support marketing and administrative operations.

The estate encompasses 36 hectares of land, with approximately 5.8 hectares currently dedicated to grapevines. These vineyards are located in the high altitude commune of La Sesta near the village of Sant'Angelo in Colle, where they sit at elevations between 400 and 450 meters. The terroir is defined by its stony Eocene soils which include limestone, Galestro, and pietraserena. Cultivation follows organic principles, and the winery officially achieved organic certification for all its wines starting with the 2016 vintage. The south and southwest facing slopes ensure the Sangiovese Grosso grapes achieve maturity while maintaining the acidity provided by the elevation.

The winery is recognized for producing traditional expressions of Sangiovese under the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino designations. Fermentation occurs spontaneously using indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and large oak formats. The Rosso di Montalcino is typically aged for 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, with a small percentage occasionally refined in used French barriques. Alongside these DOC and DOCG wines, the producer crafts a Toscana IGT called Ampelio, a blend that incorporates Alicante and Ciliegiolo. The estate limits its total annual production to approximately 25,000 bottles, emphasizing a small scale and terroir driven approach.
