Producer
Albert Jané established Ritme Celler in 2010 in the Priorat region of Catalonia. This project represents a further development of his winemaking career, which began in the Penedès region with his family business, Jané Ventura, in 1996. He later expanded into the Montsant region with the creation of Acústic Celler in 2004 before moving into Priorat to complete his exploration of the neighboring Catalan terroirs. The winery is based in a refurbished farm building on the outskirts of La Vilella Alta, a small municipality centered in the Riuet d'Escaladei river valley. Jané maintains independent ownership and focuses on small-scale production that highlights regional identity through indigenous grape varieties.
The estate manages 20 hectares of vineyards, including 14 hectares of owned property and 6 hectares of leased land across sites such as Poboleda, Porrera, and Gratallops. These vineyards sit at elevations between 300 and 750 meters and are planted in llicorella, a soil composed of broken slate and quartz. Viticulture follows organic principles and utilizes old vines that range from 20 to 100 years in age. Winemaking emphasizes minimal intervention, employing spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wines are aged for approximately 10 months in French oak barrels or large 5,000-liter vats, and they are bottled without filtration or clarification.
Ritme Celler is best known for its red blends of Garnatxa Negra and Carinyena, along with a white wine made from Garnatxa Blanca. The core range includes Ritme Negre, Plaer, and the top-tier Etern, the latter of which is produced from very low-yielding old vines. The winery has earned high scores from the Wine Advocate and other critics for the mineral concentration and depth of its wines. In 2024, the DOQ Priorat selected Plaer 2021 as an institutional wine to represent the appellation at official events, marking a significant point of recognition for the producer within the regional hierarchy.
