Domaine Jean Touzot is a three generation family estate located in the commune of Martailly les Brancion, situated in the northernmost part of the Mâcon region near Tournus. Frédéric Touzot took over management of the property in 2002, succeeding his father, Jean, who is also identified in regional records as Jean-Pierre. The family lineage at the estate traces back to Frédéric’s great-grandfather, who originally operated the property as a mixed farm before the family gradually transitioned the land entirely to viticulture.
The estate encompasses approximately 11 to 12 hectares of vineyards primarily planted on clay-limestone slopes at an average altitude of 200 meters. Roughly 70 percent of the holdings are dedicated to Chardonnay, while the rest is planted with Pinot Noir and Gamay for red and rosé production. A significant portion of the terroir includes the Les Parettes parcel, a three-hectare vineyard with a southern exposure and stony, heat-retaining soils over pure limestone. Frédéric manages the vines through sustainable practices, employing regular plowing to encourage deep root growth and avoiding systematic chemical treatments in favor of observation-based intervention.
The domaine is most recognized for its Mâcon-Villages, particularly the Vieilles Vignes bottling produced from Chardonnay vines with an average age of 30 years. Winemaking focuses on preserving freshness and fruit purity, utilizing pneumatic bladder presses and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation and aging. The resulting wines are characterized by a profile of green apple, citrus, and white flowers, often showing a distinct mineral tension. In addition to its white wines, the estate produces Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Mâcon-Cruzille, maintaining a reputation for providing classic, concentrated expressions of northern Mâconnais terroir.
