Domaine de Boischampt

Domaine de Boischampt traces its origins to 1642 in the village of Jullié, located in the northern part of the Beaujolais region. For much of the late 20th century, the estate focused on bulk wine production to supply the Beaujolais Nouveau market. The property was purchased in 2018 by Antoine Romero and an Australian-Japanese couple, Bob and Yuko Harris. This change in ownership initiated a transition from high-volume sales toward a focus on estate bottling and site-specific viticulture.

The estate manages 15 hectares of vineyards across several appellations, including Juliénas, Fleurie, Morgon, and Chénas. The terroir features steep slopes and blue stone soils, which are metamorphic formations similar to the geology found in the Côte du Py. Vineyards are situated at altitudes between 300 and 400 meters. Under the direction of winemaker Thibaud Baudin, the domaine completed a conversion to organic farming and received official certification in 2023. Winemaking takes place in a cellar with 16th-century vaulted ceilings, where the team uses gravity flow to minimize mechanical handling. The process relies on spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and aging in either concrete vats or oak barrels. Finished wines are typically bottled without fining or filtration and receive only minimal additions of sulfur.

The producer is recognized for its cru Beaujolais wines, particularly those from Juliénas where the estate is based. Notable bottlings include plot-specific wines like Juliénas Les 4 Cerisiers and Saint-Amour Tête de Bonnet, which emphasize structural depth. The range also includes Morgon, Fleurie, Chénas, and Beaujolais-Villages in both red and white versions. Though the region is dominated by Gamay, the estate also produces white wine from Chardonnay, having planted three hectares of the variety in Jullié shortly after the 2018 acquisition. These wines are characterized by a focus on mineral expression and fruit purity, positioning the estate among the modern group of quality-oriented producers in northern Beaujolais.
