Château Tour Saint Christophe is a property in the Saint Émilion appellation with origins dating to the mid-eighteenth century. Peter Kwok and his daughter Karen acquired the estate in 2012 from the Castel group, adding it to their Vignobles K portfolio. Before this acquisition, Kwok had established a presence in the region with the 1997 purchase of Château Haut Brisson. In 2015, the family further expanded the holdings by acquiring Château Tourans and incorporating several of its parcels into Tour Saint Christophe. This expansion increased the vineyard area from its original 6.5 hectares to approximately 20 hectares. The family commissioned a complete renovation of the winery and the historical vineyard landscape to modernize production while preserving the estate's heritage.
The vineyards are located in the commune of Saint Christophe des Bardes, situated on the eastern part of the Saint Émilion plateau. The terroir is characterized by red clay over Astéries limestone, which is a specific type of hard limestone found in the region. The estate is notable for its steep, south facing terraces supported by 1.5 kilometers of dry stone walls that were restored by hand over a two year period. Planting consists of approximately 80 percent Merlot and 20 percent Cabernet Franc, with vine densities ranging from 7,000 to 7,500 vines per hectare. Winemaker Jérôme Aguirre manages the cellar with consulting from Michel Rolland. They utilize a combination of temperature controlled concrete vats and a method of vinification intégrale where fermentation takes place directly in French oak barrels.
The flagship wine of the estate is Château Tour Saint Christophe, which earned promotion to Grand Cru Classé status in the 2022 Saint Émilion classification. This recognition followed a decade of investment and rising assessment from international critics. The property also produces a second label titled Les Terrasses de Tour Saint Christophe, which is named after the terraced landscape of the vineyard. A small production of white wine has also been part of the range since 2017. The wines are often cited for their combination of concentrated fruit and the saline finish associated with the limestone terroir. Annual production of the main label is approximately 4,000 to 6,000 cases depending on the vintage.
