Château La Rose de Vitrac is a family-owned wine estate located in the village of Soussac, situated in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. The property is managed by the Jolivet family, who have been active as winegrowers in this commune for four generations. Jean-Marc and Catherine Jolivet assumed control of the operations in 1981, modernizing the facilities while expanding the family holdings to approximately 120 hectares across several labels. Today, the management includes their daughters, Marie-Amélie and Bénédicte, who represent the newest generation overseeing viticulture and winemaking for the Vignobles Jolivet portfolio.
The estate vineyards are positioned on the slopes of the Butte de Launay, which reaches an altitude of 145 meters, making it the highest point in the Bordeaux region. The terroir is characterized by clay-limestone soils that provide a natural drainage system and depth to the vines. The family emphasizes environmental stewardship and holds a High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3 certification. This commitment included the installation of a dedicated wastewater treatment plant as early as 1999 to manage winery runoff. Winemaking is led by Marie-Amélie Jolivet, who utilizes temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation to ensure the preservation of primary fruit aromas and regional typicity.
The production is focused on AOC Bordeaux wines, with the red and white bottlings serving as the primary expressions of the estate. The red wine is typically a blend of 80 percent Merlot and 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, known for a profile of dark berries, graphite, and integrated tannins. The white wine blends Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, frequently incorporating Muscadelle to introduce floral notes and aromatic complexity. The estate has earned notable critical recognition in recent years, including a 95-point score and a gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards for its 2022 red vintage. These wines are distributed internationally and are often featured as value-driven selections in North American and Asian markets.
