The Boursot family has a history of winegrowing in Chambolle Musigny that dates to 1550 with Guillaume Boursot. For several centuries, the lineage operated as viticulturists, typically selling their harvest to larger merchant houses in the region. This changed in 1974 when Jean François Boursot began estate bottling and established a dedicated tasting cellar in a village townhouse. Today, his grandsons Romaric and Romuald Boursot lead the domaine as the fifteenth generation of the family. Romaric joined the business in 2011 to manage commercial operations, while Romuald assumed responsibility for the vineyards and winemaking in 2012.
The estate manages four hectares of vineyards with additional production coming from a négociant business founded in 1993 to source fruit from nearby appellations. These holdings are concentrated in the Côte de Nuits, including parcels in Chambolle Musigny, Gevrey Chambertin, and Vosne Romanée. The soils in these plots are predominantly clay and limestone. Since 2003, the brothers have followed organic practices, including the use of organic compost and the elimination of herbicides. In the cellar, they utilize gravity for moving wine and have introduced 300 liter clay amphorae for aging certain lots, aiming to preserve freshness alongside traditional French oak barrels.
Boursot Père & Fils is best known for its red wines, particularly the premier cru bottlings from Chambolle Musigny such as Les Fuées and Les Chatelots. Their Gevrey Chambertin is recognized for its concentration and structure, typically showing darker fruit profiles compared to the more floral village wines of Chambolle. The estate also produces a grand cru from Clos de Vougeot and a white Bourgogne Chardonnay from parcels near the village border. Although long established in local commerce, the domaine has recently earned broader international acclaim for a style that emphasizes silkier tannins and vivid, forward fruit.
