Producer
The Boiron family has produced wine in Châteauneuf du Pape since 1860, starting with vineyard investments made by Emmanuel Boiron. The property grew through successive generations, and in 1936 Joseph-Victor Boiron registered the estate under the name Clos Chantemerle. In 1966, Maurice Boiron increased the vineyard holdings significantly and renamed the domaine Bosquet des Papes. Today, the sixth generation of the family oversees the estate, led by Nicolas Boiron and his wife Jeanne-Claire. Their daughters, Eva and Anna, have also joined the business to maintain family ownership and operation for the future.
The estate comprises 32 hectares of vineyards located in Châteauneuf du Pape, with an additional 6 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône appellation. These holdings are divided into forty separate parcels, providing a wide range of terroirs that include red sandstone, sandy soils, brown earth, and the traditional large rolled pebbles known as galets roulés. The vines have an average age of 50 years, with some specific plots exceeding 100 years of age. Viticulture follows reasoned agriculture principles to limit environmental impact throughout the growing season. Winemaking is traditional, involving hand-harvesting, manual sorting, and fermentation in concrete tanks. The wines typically age for 12 to 18 months in a combination of large oak foudres and smaller demi-muids.
Bosquet des Papes is recognized for producing structured red wines with significant aging potential that respect the history of the appellation. The flagship cuvée, Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes, utilizes the oldest vines on the property and is composed mainly of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. The À la Gloire de mon Grand-Père cuvée is a tribute to family legacy, made almost entirely from old-vine Grenache grown on sandy soils to achieve a finer texture. The portfolio also includes the Tradition rouge and a white Châteauneuf du Pape produced from Clairette and Grenache Blanc. These wines are generally characterized by deep textures and spice notes that develop more complexity after several years in the bottle.
